EZ Hydro-Gains – Important Bolt Update & Maintenance

⚠️ Important: Do Not Use Split Washers

Customers who purchased an EZ Hydro-Gains system after 1 June 2026

Your system was supplied with blue thread-lock screws.

Following extensive testing of multiple fastening solutions, these screws proved to be the most effective at preventing bolts from loosening—even on very rough roads with high levels of vibration.

The pre-applied thread-locking compound will typically remain effective for approximately 3–4 installation/removal cycles before its locking performance begins to reduce.

Customers who purchased before 1 June 2026

You can purchase the upgraded screw kit from our website using the discount code:

UPGRADESCREWS50%

This code provides 50% off the upgraded screw kit - THE WHOLE SYSTEM £4.99

When you place your order, we'll cross-reference it with your original purchase to ensure you receive the correct screws for your Hydro-Gains system. You can also add notes to your order if there's anything specific you'd like us to know.

Regular Maintenance

Please check that all bolts remain tight on your Hydro-Gains system on a regular basis.

The mounting area is exposed to significant vibration and load transfer during riding, particularly on rough road surfaces. Routine inspections are essential for reliable performance.

Recommended tightening torque

  • Main mounting screws: 3 Nm (or firm hand-tight if a torque wrench is unavailable)
  • Double Bottle Attachment: 2 Nm (or snug hand-tight)

We strongly recommend using a torque wrench or torque screwdriver with the correct Allen bit.

Where possible, avoid tightening with a standard Allen key alone, as it is difficult to achieve consistent and accurate torque by hand.

Bottle Recommendations

For maximum reliability, we recommend carrying no more than two 750 ml bottles on the rear of the bike when they are full.

Many athletes successfully race with two 1-litre bottles. However, this places a greater load on the system and means you should inspect and check bolt tightness more frequently.

If you're racing on an exceptionally rough course—such as T100 London, which features more than 40 speed bumps that may be crossed at around 40 km/h—consider using a single rear bottle to reduce vibration and loading.

Regular inspections and maintaining the correct bolt torque are the best ways to ensure your Hydro-Gains system performs reliably throughout both training and racing.

Bottle Tie

FREE WITH THE HYDRO-GAINS

Add extra security on bumpy road surfaces, adjust toggle to suit your set up, pull tight or tie a knot to secure. The toggle is not essential you can just tie a knot. The hole for the bottle ties is located at the rear of the fin. Take the elastic and thread through the hole, you may need pliers to pull the second elastic through. Next, stretch the elastic either around the nipple of the bottle or around the wide area of the bottle. Before you race assess the course and your setup to determine if you want the elastic ties. For example, if you are using TriRig Cages or Gorrilla Cages you may feel elastic ties are not necessary. Equally, you can use them at the start of the course where the road is normally more bumpy until you get out on the smooth open road. For example, TT riders rarely use our ties because TT courses normally have smooth tarmac and no speed bumps. Please see Video below.

EZ Extension Plate

This allows you to bring your bottle even closer to your butt, optimizing on your aero benefits, it's totally clear with all the testing we have done that the further forward the bottle and slightly higher up, the faster it is, bottles further back and lower down are a lot slower even leading into negative drag.
