Ed Laverack, ex-Pro Cyclist, 2x British Champion, 10+ years in the sport, 6 of those racing across the world at UCI Continental level for one of the most successful British teams, Rapha Condor JLT.
I started cycling in 2009 after watching Nicole Cooke win Olympic Gold in the 2008 Women’s RR, inspired by a sport and effort that looked ’tough (to say the least)’!
After a whirlwind Junior racing season I signed for Rapha Condor JLT as a young U23 rider, developing under guidance from experienced riders and staff and having a worldwide racing calendar. My standout results and high place finishes were usually in multi day stage races, including Tour of Japan, Korea, Portugal and when I found my hidden talent for climbing hills, the winning the British Hill Climb Championships in 2019.
When the pandemic hit I had already been doing Youtube videos for a few years, showing people some of the life behind the racing and training at the level I was at. Lockdowns allowed me to put more effort in to building an online community (Backpedal) and taking my business and social media profile further.
I now spend my time training for some crazy adventures or challenges and personal ambitions after spending a few years racing in the service of others. I love working with brands that are pushing the envelope in more ways than one, with the guys at EZ providing me with the affordable speed and comfort of the disc allowing it to be fitted to literally any wheel I own. My favourite example is that I can pop it on a training wheel, ride it on my training roads, and not be worried about damaging an expensive disc wheel equivalent. This means I’m far more likely to get my cost per use out of this item!
